211. Share Your Most Embarassing Moment

Thank God, I don't embarrass easy because I am definitely prone to saying and doing things without putting any thought into them beforehand. Not to say that I am thoughtless or harsh, more just clumsy and absentminded. I trip over invisible objects, break random things and have stuck my foot in my mouth on way more than one occasion. But, on this one afternoon I can truly say that I felt my cheeks turn a crimson red, my stomach knot up as if I drank the water in Mexico and I was praying for a rapid, direct escape route.

I was in Vegas for my company Christmas party, where everyone had just received a nice size bonus. The thought crossed my mind to put the entire unexpected compensation on red at the roulette table, but I couldn't bear the thought of losing my money without anything to show for it. Instead I decided to take a stroll into Jimmy Choo to buy a pair of uber-fabulous shoes that I would never have normally conceived as doable. I strutted in, feeling pretty proud of myself, and ogled over the luxurious selection before me; stilettos, wedges, or knee-high boots? Leather or suede? Pink, camel or the always-sexy jet black? Was I in Heaven?

I picked up a pair of red, soft leather platform boots with a 4 1/2 inch heel. I was admiring them, as if they were a famous piece of artwork, when the sales woman approached me. Before I could say, "can I please try these on in a size 37", she said "excuse me, but woman to woman, I just want to tell you that your zipper is down." BAM! I stood there for a moment in a slight daze, weighing my options of what to do next. I did manage to mutter, "Oh…No, thank you so much." But, the embarrassment was just too much, how was I suppose to ask this same sophisticated woman to bring me a thousand dollar shoe to sample? I pretended to look around the store for about ONE minute more and then headed out with my tail between my legs. Hence the reason that #194 on my bucket list {own a fabulous pair of designer shoes} is not checked off yet.

Bucket List for Couples {9 Things Every Couple Must Do}

A couples relationship should be filled with experiences that create wonderful memories, bring them closer together and nonverbally say "I love you". Here are nine ways to start designing your life together.

1. Couples Massage
A couples massage is one of the hottest treatments at luxury spas all over the world. What could be more romantic than lying side-by-side with your significant other in the most relaxing environment?

2. Write a Love Letter
Let's bring it back to old school; the days where letters were handwritten, sealed with a kiss and mailed at the post office. Love letters are a physical memory that will last a lifetime.

3.Cook Dinner Together
Food and romance have be linked throughout history, mix in some intriguing conversation and you have the best date night ever. The dishes that you create on this night will become a significant part of celebrating other events in your lifetime.

3. Have a Picnic
Break out the old picnic basket, pack your favorite bottle of wine, pick a secluded outdoor getaway and create a memory.

4. Stay up all Night, Laughing
There are many reasons that we stay up all night, how many of them include just laughing?

5. Sing a Karaoke Duet
12 years ago, my husband and I sang "Summer Nights" from Grease at a local Karaoke club. Though the musicality left much to be desired and they actually turned the volume down on my microphone, it is an experience that we still talk about.

6. Carve your Names into a Tree
I typically would not recommend defacing a living object, but in the name of Bucket Lists I will have to break this rule.

7. Dress up for Halloween
Fairy tales can come true, at least on Halloween. What could bring a couple closer together than looking completely ridiculous as a team?

8. Kiss on Top of the Ferris Wheel
Some of the most romantic movies feature a smooch on the tippy-top of the Ferris Wheel.

9. Watch the sunset & rise in one day
You might be able to complete this one as well as, #3 {Have a Picnic} & #4 {Stay Up All Night, Laughing} all in one day! Now that's the ultimate in multi-tasking.

Sky Diving Naked?

Skydiving naked is NOT on my bucket list but is was on Sebastian Terry's. Just the plain old "classic" tandem sky diving was enough excitement for me, but Sebastian decided to take it one step further. What do you think?

128. Apply to be on a Reality TV Show {Oops…I did it again}

As many of you will remember, I already completed this goal by applying for Oprah's Own Next TV Star contest just a few months ago. Remember? I shamelessly begged for votes in hopes of becoming the top 5 and to have a shot at having my very own Bucket List show. ‎7 Weeks, 1 Million Votes, 2 Interviews & 3 Producer cuts later, I just barely missed being a finalist. I ended up 22nd out of 9,500 entries, not bad for my first try. After getting over the disappointment of not heading to LA for my 15 minutes of fame, I realized that the journey had been amazing and the dream lived on…

So, I had to do it again. I just applied for the Next Food Network Star to have a show called "Bucket List for Foodies" {surprise, surprise}. Come on, it's not that much of a long shot considering that I am a chef and bucket listologist…totally doable. Then again, I think just about anything is doable.

At least I learned a few things from my last experience and feel armed with a little more "reality TV audition" knowledge. I now know that the process is painfully loooonnnng and even though casting agents call, producers email and background checks are aced, it doesn't mean you will make the final cut. And when you were convinced you were so close and finally realize that you were dumped…it will hurt…especially when you were fantasizing about your beach house in Santa Barbara, being best friends with your uber-in-demand hair stylist and sipping fruity cocktails at Mr. Chow with Jennifer Aniston.

Back to reality here. Why do it again? Because I met some of the most inspiring people, learned invaluable lessons about myself and felt a level of excitement that has escaped many people at this age. Most importantly, this process confirmed that incredible things usually don't happen to people who are afraid of being vulnerable and frighteningly exposed.

7. Own Investment Real Estate

Why? Why? Why did I put this goal on my Bucket List? Today the goal would read "Get Rid of ALL of your Investment Real Estate"! Of course I added this to my list when I was a bit younger and thought "if only I was a real estate investor, I could become rich, travel the world and be a remote property manager". Of course, we bought the properties at the peak of the market and of course we are now losing our a$$ just like most of the rest of the investors.

With that said, there is always a positive to any negative situation and here are 3 valuable lessons I learned from this experience.

  1. I'm a simple girl. I don't need a fancy car or huge diamond rings to be happy and I can only wear so many clothes that are in my closet. I have learned how to enjoy the simple pleasures in life and now concentrate on creating experiences instead of acquiring "things".

  2. How to reduce my monthly bills. I literally went through every line of every bill to see if any reductions could be made and saved myself over $200 per month. I also went through bills from the food suppliers I use at my restaurant and switched to purchasing products from the cheapest source (savings: $300 per month). I switched phone/internet companies for a cheaper rate and changed my car insurance company (savings: $60 per month). This was all without very much effort, I was almost angry at myself for never doing it before. I have now vowed reevaluate my bills and spending every six months.

  3. Entertainment can be cheap. During this time my husband and I created a "Recipe Trial" night. This was a night where we would each choose recipes we have always wanted to try. We would then invite our friends over to critique our creations, they would bring the wine. This turned out to be one of my favorite nights of the week. I also took up hiking since it can be done for free and, due to this, I have seen some of the most spectacular wildlife, waterfalls and foliage. It is also a great opportunity to catch up with friends while getting some much needed exercise. I would now rather go hiking than shopping, any day of the week.

So, as of today, we just sit and wait for the economy to turn around. But, in the meantime, if anyone is interested in a vacation rental in Arizona check out our website :)

204. Coin a Word

Everyday I am amazed at the things that are possible with a little knowledge and effort. After doing the obligatory how-to-get-my-blog-to-be super-freakin-popular research, I came across a well-known personal blog {& my new bloggy idol} dooce.com. She was featured in Wikipedia as coining the word dooce {damn, how I want to be just like her when I grow up}. Do I smell a challenge coming on?  I have always been the person who believes that if it can be done…I can do it…if it doesn't require heavy lifting or repairing carburetors of course. Coining a word had always been on my bucket list, but now I was on a mission!

After throwing around the words fo' shizzle dizzle, crapola & fantabulous, I opted for something related to what I do:

List-ol-o-gist: n: A person who is a master at creating lists.
The listologist just completed writing the list of the all-time best movies.

Buck-et List-ol-o-gist: n: A person who has mastered the art of living their life through their bucket list.
The only item left on her "things to do before you die" list is skydiving, then she will be a true bucket listologist.

I submitted them both to Urban Dictionary and got rejected the first time. After making some minor changes, I was successful and you can find them both listed in Urban Dictionary {currently, waiting on approval from Websters!} Crazy!!! What words do you want to coin?

84. Try 21 New Foods (#14 Lambs Tongue)

Let me start by saying that after I write this article I will probably never be asked to be a spokesperson for PETA, which is okay because I am pretty sure nobody wants to see my naked a$$ on a 10 foot billboard.

Tonight Peter & I celebrated our 13th wedding anniversary at Scopa in Healdsburg, one of our favorite eateries due to their creative take on italian food.  I am not sure who thought putting cooked lambs tongue on the special list this evening was a good idea. But, I do know that, amongst chefs, using the whole animal is desirable because no part of it would go to waste. My question is, "what did they do with rest of it?" Evidently, Scopa only purchased the tongue because there were no other lamb dishes in sight. I second guessed myself about ordering lambs tongue on such a special occasion, it seemed more fitting for an episode of Survivor. Besides, choking, vomiting or gagging would not make for the ultra-sexy dining experience I was hoping for. Are you really going to ruin this uber-romantic dinner by ordering lambs tongue? Yes…Yes, I am.

It arrived at the table all dolled up and pretty as if it were on a first date; laying on a bed of butter beans, dressed in a light vinaigrette and topped with roasted onions.  Hmm…this was deceiving because, when I squinted my eyes, it resembled the tasty filet mignon salad we served at our restaurant. There's no turning back now, dig in and please don't taste like liver!

Ok, I am willing to admit that some people might like the gamy flavor and leather texture of tongue. I am not one of them! It tasted like a mild version of liver with a strong lamb flavor. mmmm….yummm…nope!

If you are a lamb tongue fan you can find a lamb cassoulet recipe here, don't click if you have a weak stomach!

81. Create a Room I Love

Haven't you always wanted one of those rooms that serves so many purposes and fulfills so many needs that you swear you could live your entire life in it? When I think back at all the time I have spent in this living room it brings me comfort, joy and hope. Weird, right? Read on…

In this room I have given my husband some of his most favorite gifts, I have had some of the most intimate conversations with friends and I have cried myself to sleep. In this room I have written my list of dreams, contemplated my future and played the best game of Scrabble. In this room I have warmed my frozen toes by the fire, braided my nieces hair and found my first Arizona cockroach.

Each possession in this room also has a story to tell; the Anne Rice book that I waited in line for 3 hours to be signed, the gorgeous end table that was left to us by Pete's grandmother when she passed on and the coffee table that took us 6 months to pick out.

This room exemplifies what makes a house, a home and that's what makes it my favorite.

205. Wrap a Snake Around my Neck

I did not set out to complete this goal today, but when the opportunity presents itself you need to take it! My husband and I were taking a stroll through the Art & Garden Festival in our hometown, hoping to pass the time before going back to work. We passed some folks walking a couple of Alpacas and I wondered what they had to do with art or gardens and then wondered if I should add an Alpaca goal to my bucket list. As i pondered, I noticed a huge crowd surrounding one booth and, of course, my curiosity got the best of me. Getting closer I got a glimpse of the snake handler demonstrating how to hold this scaly creature. All I could blurt out was, "Ooh…Ooh, this is on my bucket list! Any chance I can wrap that thing around my neck and take a picture?" The fear set in when he actually said, "sure!"  He really wouldn't let me do it if it wasn't safe…would he?
